Legislative/Regulatory Update
As of: January 23, 2009
This page will be updated periodically during the next 90 days of the General Assembly in order for MAWC members to have access to current legislative and regulatory information.
The Maryland General Assembly’s 426th session opened on January 14, 2009. Other than massive budgetary issues, it has been quiet as far as our hunting and hound sports are concerned. It’s impossible to predict whether any harmful bills will be introduced but we can hope there will not be any. To date, 215 Senate bills and 143 House bills have been introduced.
During the General Assembly session, MAWC monitors legislation and regulations. In addition, throughout the year, we continually peruse newspapers online on a daily basis, routinely check animal rights as well as pro-hunting websites, and maintain contact with DNR to keep on top of any issues that could affect MAWC.
The Maryland General Assembly’s website, www.mlis.state.md.us, is packed with all sorts of information. You can find status of legislation, bill hearings, legislators’ biographical information, contact information and much, much more.
